Show/Hide hidden files in Leopard

for those that wanted the script for the show/hide hidden files automator plugins, they are as follows. Just save them as plugins like the missing link post.

The missing link: symbolic and hard links in Mac OS X (Leopard) and a script to enable them

i’m still a bit surprised that you can’t create symbolic and hard links through the Leopard UI.  Yes, you can create an alias, but not a link.  Yes, you can open up Terminal and do it manually, but that’s not what Aqua’s all about.  Surely? A strange decision then, by Apple. For those not […]

An Alternative to Image based CAPTCHA

A salutory tale

having just posted at length about backups, i now have to admin to one of my own failures. As said, I have a bunch of whopping great hard disks on which I store data. They are not RAID configured, just a bunch of disks.

i’ve had one disk which has been reporting an error (bad sectors) for a couple of years. it’s a small one with the operating system on it. i’ve been ignoring the errors as it hasn’t had much traffic and … well … it’s just worked anyway.

Social backup

now here’s an interesting idea …

I’ve had a server set up in one of my houses for some time now, it’s got a number of whopping hard drives in it and a copy of foldershare. Various members of my family also have foldershare installed and then invite me to their library. Thus all their files are backed up securely to a different location.

Easy month calendar builder

I had cause to build a month calendar recently. I took a look at what else was around (of course), including PEAR::CALENDAR (which is great, but a little over the top for my needs).

multiBlog – a solution … ish
